Well imagine your system only has to go over file X once, then over the year, it now goes over it twice, before long 3 times, then 4 times, you'd hope it doesn't load the oldest to newest, instead does an enumeration first then loads the newest of file X, what's hoped would be more efficient, better on resources, it's still silly though, this enumeration of file X could be avoided entirely.
