The links to the patched client .exe are all dead and Ladik's MPQ Editor doesn't show any options to "import" or "replace" a file. What do?

I think this is the exe you want.
You want to create a MPQ that contains the file you modified with the same path and file name. MPQs are a virtual file system where later load order MPQs override files in earlier MPQs. MPQs are not really designed to be modified -- you're meant to build them from a directory once and rebuild if files changed.
