It does make sense to request info from the server when it could differ (e.g. items could have an enchantment on it)

Aye this is my approach as well, but it only works for spells that have been learned

(I also check both left and right tooltip texts plus scan all _G frames with the dummy tooltip frame as prefix)

Aye but you can request this data from the server and listen on response. I haven't been able to figure out a way for spells hmm

The important part is set spells by hyperlink and not by the function that sets the tooltip by spellid
