Sometimes you'll see a message in one of the emu discords like `Hey, maybe you guys should check out this packet I think is behaving strangely or is exploitable` but no issue created or PR submitted.

Likewise blizzlike content + scaling changes are made all the time. Even servers with custom systems are primarily blizzlike game content.

For sure, it takes more effort to curate a PR and get code into a standard that is acceptable to maintainers. But I also think it's so entirely wrong to be profiteering on a game we don't own and that has been built up on the open source community. It's a very controversial discussion and one that has gone back and forth a lot of times, a common argument is the servers are not actually making much profit because they reinvest most of it into staff. ‍♂️

But 100% these servers could contribute more back. There are many private forks of spell editor for example, and they don't contribute back. The most I have had is an offer to have access to a private fork.

There are also Noggit forks who never contributed a single line back to the project

I understand that even less. If not the game server, at least contribute to the tools that allow you to work on your dream game

There is of pretty much everything. They see a gap in the market, take the tools and other software, add the functionality + enhancements they want, and turn it into a business.

There's nothing you can do to stop people doing that. And the ones doing it will naturally rise to the top as they have more money to throw at problems.

The community survives on the goodwill of a few people. As it is in a lot of areas. Relevant XKCD:

And pretty sure the ones that do that as a buisness 99% of the time don't want said tools, fixes and contributions since it will hurt their income due to the chance that some other project might rise up
