it should limit equipping, carry in inventory is specified by `maxcount` column in `item_template` sql table

see `Petrified Twilight Scale` for example, you can have both normal and hc in bags but they both have `ItemLimitCategory` column in `item_template` equal to 83 and you cannot equip both versions
