Yeah, real points are applied every level from base level to max level. So 1 base 80 max means it applies the real points for every level. That said, at base WoW curves, making it balance perfectly for that big of a range is easier said than done since power scaling isn't necessarily linear, especially with expansion spikes factored in.

I'd always rather scale my players into being stronger rather than weaker if itd be possible to just over compensate without going crazy ofc

It takes a lot to redo the entire power curve of the game anyways, was just adding that addendum just in case. But yeah, real points are what you're looking for on that, you'll just have to play with the numbers to get something that hits what you want to do with it.
