So a tldr of reading a dbc would be pulling the file's binary, putting each piece of data into the correct value while changing it from binary to human readable, then (in this case) displaying the values ?

Alright, so then my current issue in understanding this process is the conversion from binary I think

The byte 0000 0001 represents a single byte of binary. It also represents the integer value 1. Both interpretations are valid.

Converting from binary to types is basically just knowing which bytes corresponde to which field/record then saying these bytes should be read as a given data type
