You sure? I have weird memories of doing a quest in order for it to change (after the patch was added) but I might be wrong too

I think you're misremembering, at least on Classic the only terrain change was between 3.4.1/3.4.2 when the AT was added

i know 3.3.5a does not have that - it was a cata showcase and moreused in MoP
