My main concern with re-doing or massively adjusting itemization is that players wouldn't be able to use their existing knowledge very effectively, which I'm not sure if that would be exciting and new or if it would be discouraging and confusing

you can look at some of the old code on stone's repos for zombies with the basic item thing, you can also take a look at some of the tswow code
