If I fix something that is broken in the emulator, to work in a blizzlike manner, am I emulating or am I modding?

emulation is a technical term, it just refers to one system pretending to be another system

Personally I don't think that is modding, you wouldn't call a blizzlike server a modded server

I think the point that was trying to be made earlier, is that there are developers working on blizzlike projects in the modding scene as well

The community isn't mutually exclusive or segregated, but I wouldn't consider blizzlike changes modding

I agree, and making your server pretend to be the real product better isn't "modding" imo

though you lose a term that describes the sum of both practices in a way you can easily translate to other technology

yeah you have to consider whether or not the changes you make are approved changes. if u mod ur core to be more blizzlike privately then it stays a mod. if not then ur only left with emulation
