but just having a lot of stat modifiers shouldn't do that, at least didn't when I fucked around with that many years ago

though it's possible we had to change some shit with how they were loaded, but i don't think we did

load balancing does help easing the curves, that's why the worldserver does threaded map updates, but it can only do so much against these types of scalability issues.

Did you have a (possible) exponential behavior in mind in my context?

lots of auras do, i don't know exactly which ones robinsch is thinking of that are that bad but even 'nice' auras will eventually start doing it, e.g. updating one will trigger all of them to re-apply. idk how many auras you're thinking of, but you still gotta multiply the price with the amounts of players doing it concurrently which can make even low costs (<1ms) extremely bad if you have hundreds or even thousands of players

okay so I avoid trying to reapplying aura again and again or aura that apply thousand of aura's or modifier that call himself other aura and everything will be fine

just make sure to measure the impact while you're testing and you should be fine

but i really recommend looking into dynamic aura types that you can update as you see fit yourself if you don't actually need 'modifiers'

e.g. aura stacks can do a lot of good shit too
