I'm thinking it is likely arbitrary. Someone was likely just working on it, either locally or something, and later imported it into this map, and the orientation was off or something. It is hard to say, but I don't believe it is due to grid limitations

They could also have thought ahead to the 2.4 patch, and known that they would likely want to be able to reuse the ADTs, and as to avoid having to fix placements or something, they oriented it like this to begin with, I'm not sure

Actually looking at it, it might just be that they copied Eastern Plaguelands, and that has it
