Looks super janky when you hover over the item and see the original stats for like 0.5 seconds.

I haven't noticed that, and I don't think we inject anything in item tooltips, the item tooltips on HoT is just normal tooltips generated from the virtual item templates

Also mass generating item_template is just so bad. We used that on Ascension to a maximum where item cache queries from client getting throtteld so hard, server startup time increases, our Item.dbc explodes in size.
