Per object would be my guess. Before spawn, do an insert into a db with autoincrementing id, get the id returned, assign to object

imo on save makes more sense, or you'd be spaming the db if you do a lot of testing

so i could do something like each patch will download only necessary files create new mpq out of them and on each patch it will merge previous patch into main patch
