Basically I'm hoping to make the process of adding custom affixes to items easier than editing the exe. I'd like to have a new table in my db that includes an item ID column and a string column that has lua pull that string onto the the item just below the item name. If this is impossible/misguided or extremely difficult please let me know beforehand

Without binary mods, you'd first need a way to communicate with the client, then you'd have to hook the tooltip functions and inject your data. Whether it's difficult or not depends on your proficiency with such mods, and it would either need an addon or a client patch regardless

Actually, I lie, it would either need an addon, a client patch, or a custom warden injection

I would hope that I could just accomplish this with an addon as I'm not very familiar with many/most in depth aspects of modding. I've primarily done sql stuff and blp editing. I'm just hoping for the most entry level friendly option possible

And I'm willing to learn whatever I need to. It's just been tough to pick a direction to go in when you don't necessarily know of all the elements at play.

So yeah, you need a way to communicate with the client. AIO, CSMH, your own addon message handler or other forms of communication. You need to write the server side code to send said info to the client, and then you need to write the client side addon to inject the transferred data in the item tooltip

tooltip stuff is somewhat the peak of addon stuff, so there is limited info for 335, but you can steal retail addons and learn from there, they do a lot more complex tooltip modifications and u can transfer most of the knowledge to 335 to make ur own affixes
