I have one odd issue... the items have the right displayid when they are in the vendor but once they go into inventory they have a red question mark on them... any idea how I fix that?

So items that are not in your item.dbc will work/display perfectly fine while in a vendor/currency tab etc. But not in your bags. If you have access to your dbc files, you'll need to add a line in there identical to the item in your item_template table.
