I would be worried that this doesn't work in all scenarios. The DBC data isn't always perfect or consistent. All DBC readers I've seen thus far read 1 char at a time from the offset until a null terminator is found

tbh we do as well because compressing is too slow, though there should probably be a memory saving mode as well
