i usually always make copies on _every_ level when i make changes, but if your old spellvisual.dbc id is truly unique, it's enough that you only do this for the spellvisualkits.dbc (and any deeper entry those might refer to further, spelvisualeffect.dbc etc)

not that I know of, and i'd generally avoid anything that isn't actively maintained because of all the bugs we have with writing dbc files, especially if you plan to use this to regenerate all dbc data from scratch
