Working on a custom island need some ideas on how to texture the rock face of it though. Normally I use a dirt brush within the crevices/ridges of the mountain but don't think that will work here. Any ideas?

I normally use a bright and dark vertex color, like a bright but not maxed out bright white and the same for dark

You texture with vertex colors? Really? I tend to use actual textures. With vertex colors would it just be like adding shadows with maybe a blackish grey?

Ill try it out then as I dont want to have to put dirt up there but it does need some kind of change from the dull grey stone
