it does not require c++ nor smartscripts, but it's fairly involved because a single lock involves:
- an "unlocking" spell (spell.dbc, OPEN_LOCK effect)
- a "key" item that casts the unlocking spell
- a "lock" that requires the key item (lock.dbc, type 5)
- a gameobject "chest" that references the "lock"

Do you happen to remember how to unlock the ability to change the name of the game window?
There are screenshots of my early WoW.exe (3.3.5), where I changed the window name to "Development".
Now with any changes nothing happens to the window. Perhaps you need to remove the protection? But I don't remember what and how

So the types in lock.dbc are different? I found no reference on wowdev
