extract the numbers and plot price against item level for individual slots / armor types and you'll prolly see a pattern

I know I always pick plate when I get vendor quest rewards because they're more gold by a good bit

Also consider that they did a whole lot of stuff different after TBC so anything above lvl 68 could be an outlier and strictly WOTLK calculation if there are calculations being done
