I don't see how the number of skin files is related, adding more skins would make it worse

I guess my thinking would be to split a single .skin into two of them or something. I cant figure how i would be able to use all 97 bones without doing something like that

that's not how skin files work, they are separate versions of the mesh for different model quality setting

the game will render 00 if you're in highest setting, 01 in medium etc (or it might be distance based, not sure)

Hmm that makes a lot more sense then my thoughts, that being said; WMV displays the model complete with everything rendered while in-game is producing the above image
