I want to turn the base player character into a ghost. I don't mind sacrificing one of the race/gender models. But when I try just to swap NE male from model 55 to model9 the ghost.m2, it crashes the game. What would be the correct way to solve this?

that's something i'd try and solve with a morph rather than actually replacing the model

replacing m2s is complicated, especially character m2s, but morphs is as easy as telling the server to morph the player to a displayid as soon as they log in

if it should be displayed in the cc screen there's prolly a way to do that as well

On char select would the player still appear to be NE male in this case?

i'm not super-knowledgeable with how exactly to mod everything around the cc/login screen, but i do think there is a way to load arbitrary m2s in there
