My initial point in all of this is to be wary of claiming any sort of higher morality, or exclusive morality

It isn't, but a lot of people come here and do this for different reasons, different upbringings etc, it is hard to quantify in a single statement or even a single discussion why someone feels so deeply about X or Y, for most you can probably trace it back to an extremely poor upbringing.
