Changing the game version is just the mean to force people to use a specific exe, that's not named "Wow.exe" which is what cheat tools will look for

I'm not sure I understand that last part. Are you using a launcher to scan memory and try to detect hacks? Because you can bypass a launcher quite easily

I don't know many hacks that are hardcoded to reference `wow.exe` (usually it's select a running process). Even then it's like a 1 line change to edit it. It's obfuscation because you are delaying a small minority of people to be able to run some current hacks. It's trivial to bypass and once the knowledge is out there (as soon as anyone who knows a little bit about client editing looks at it) the knowledge is out there and your system achieves nothing.

well, I'm not an expert on them, since I don't cheat, but the version of hitchikker I have doesn't detect the game if it's not named wow.exe

obfuscation has its place, but it's a mistake to spend much resources on it in place of proper security measures and anticheat
