There are guides that are good, guides that are poor, there are guides that tell you to suck eggs and don't actually teach you anything and there are guides that have you do a bit of the thinking yourself.

one of the only things technical i could tell you are file types there are that wow reads but thats universal knowlege

I think Blzzard do it all on purpose to make things a bit overwhelming to slow down reverse engineering efforts.
