but the tldr is
1. make a complete copy of an m2 (and all its .skin files) with a different name (change 1 letter), possibly changing the name inside the m2 file as well
2. change the blp path in your copy to something that isn't used by anything else (change 1 letter etc)
3. extract/edit the blp as described above, but change its name to match the path in your new m2
4. run some script to replace all the trees in your map with the new type
