I am assuming the unfortunate way is editing the BLP itself if we are limited to not being transparent.

if the background is just supposed to be a solid color you could just set up your Light.dbc to display the correct color

yes, you define your light area in light.dbc and then set up rows in the light params dbcs

it takes quite a bit of setup to get working, but light is essential to get good results with any custom maps
