because it's dated codestyle. modern c++ expects static_cast as default way to cast into wider/narrow types

so if it's part of Position it's normalized, if it's plain float, it needs normalisation

yes. that's also why m_orientation is not directly exposed like the m_position... fields. SetOrientation normalizes
