And changing TC from mysql to PG would quite simply piss off a lot of people. People who run a TC server and who all of a sudden can't update past a certain point without changing their setup, if they even can, would be one. And the people not being able to use invalidated SQL PRs would be another group

You're gonna have a hard time selling that to the TC devs IMO

Do you really want to piss off the entire TC userbase?

It could be made an option - then no one would have to feel left behind. It wouldn't give any practical benefits (as in additional features, because everything has to work with the weakest link) but would be nice for those who would want to use it with postgresql

I mean - that one can compile it with the "postgresql" or with the "mysql" option, and then the built executable will use whatever one chose

It is more effort for the devs (1 big additional effort initially, later still some, but really small)

For the users on the other hand - it's a gift. because those who don't want it, have everything the same as they always had. and those who want to use postgresql can use it

(actually I didn't even think about the project at all - I was jsut talking about my personal setup but yeah, I absolutely do see added value, if such a choice was offered at compile time)

Oh and btw did I mention that the fact that we have more than 3 branches, the most important of which are 3.3.5/ master/ TCPP, and that you would also have to convince not just one but 3 maintainers?
