I believe the community should update the core setup documentation with the details on getting the certs prepared and explanation on how it works client<>server side.

not really. it just works locally. everything else is not the goal so you are on your own looking for how to create a valid cert for external hosting

SSL certificates are not really TC specific for example if you have a website and a domain name these days you must use HTTPS with SSL certificate so it's the same workflow

I agree that the wiki should state a valid/trusted cert is required for non local hosting
