in general i'd recommend starting to do some spawns with waypoint movement etc, getting used to how our database/creatures work, getting used to our tooling etc. And also to learn SQL on the way.
To get started with some C++ scripting i'd suggest to start with some random rare mob, then maybe quests or dungeon bosses

im working on BFA areas, so far, i have all of Hatherford, Fernwood Ridge and Algerson Lumber Yard. im working on Thovas base-camp, Gol Thovas.

only thing im having issues with is two quest in lumberyard and on the ridge https://www.wowhead.com/quest=49451/time-off-requests

i cant seem to get them to work you click on the npc a spell cast break free, but when it completes nothing happens. does this require scripts? or smartai
