I think it's just generally the way open source communities feel in general...when you come into a new community like this it can be intimidating, I know I was intimidated rejoining after over a decade, I think a lot of people are afraid their questions are stupid, and when people ask questions that are commonly asked by new people, the answers are generally brief and efficient...and I think it makes a lot of people feel their questions aren't being heard...but I haven't seen that much with this community, everyone's pretty chill here

starting a tc project with no experience can be daunting...especially when dealing with master, since not all the steps are written out verbosely on the wiki...for instance, it took me quite a while to figure out how to get ssl working for the arctium launcher...now, admittedly, that's more of an arctium thing and not a tc thing, but to a new user, it can get quite confusing

yeah, I mean I'm basically saying I'm not agreeing with the sentiment, but I can understand where it comes from...a lot of people just want to get a sandbox set up to mess around with with their friends, and don't want to sink up to a week getting everything just so it can connect...and they often feel inadequate when they can't even get it to the point that they can log in...this is why I've been working on a side project in the background that is just a real simple set of command line scripts and a management interface to make things easier for people who are just starting out without them having to resort to repacks

it will be similar to what I did for gzdoom...because without extra software, running just a basic vanilla server for gzdoom could be annoying...since there was no built in way to do like wad version control and stuff...so basically my idea was like a command line package system for tc dependancies

so it would keep all the dependancies up to date, as well as automatically set up your conf files to point to said dependancies

but it's just been something I'm working on slowly...I don't really want to release it publically until I know it's at least mostly functional
