before 10.1.5 we had a self signed cert and had it in a cert bundle (also signed) sent to the client

i mean yeah i understand that if you run a public host you should know how to generate your own ssl certificates that are valid for your hostname, but self-signed doesn't means openssl magically stops working and the trafic is not encrypted
