no, the shipped files are the only ones that will work (because client launcher injects them as valid to client too)

depends. My commit only allows connecting to any cert or the current used bnet server cert with --dev param due to the patches required there.
without it, it will skip those patches and the bnetserver needs to use a trusted/valid cert (you can install customs if u want)

I tried a completely fresh .dist config file, and I have another error now. I may have had a random character somewhere, I'll see if I can make it work now.

So if you really start a server (of course we dont support pservers) you have to provide a valid trusted certificate like from letsencrypt or use --dev starting with 10.1.5
