for git i am using rebase a lot lately so i don't keep anymore a strict history of commits but that's just me i find it more useful for me to work like this than the old way of using feature branches and merging and all that stuff and never force push to master/main

and thats what a history rewrite would be, just on a much larger scale (tens of thousands of commits)
