anyway documenting and commenting every function needs a very big team effort to get nicer documentation of the code and the functions

It helps a lot. I force my friend to comment as much as he can since he tend to forget the reason why he wrote it after some time

you should not comment on what the code does (because you can read it) but WHY you made choices to implement it that way
