So far, I've only seen and tested one way: changing the build number in the database.
Then you need a current EXE file to log in. That just occurred to me. A combination of both would be better.
It would be cool to have some kind of MD5 hash to compare the MPQ files. But I don't think that's possible.

That's what I meant by MD5 hash. A list of MPQ files is stored in the database or in a text file, and if the hash doesn't match, login is denied.
