I hope I'm not too much of a party-pooper, and I'm not sure if you use TC as the base for your server, but if you do, that may not be a wise choice

You making money off of their IP may trigger a reaction that's worse than a "simple" cease and desist, I would consider the possibility of them going after you for patent infringement

A lot of MMORPGs share similar ideas, so those may not be easy to patent, but if they find out you're using the same wire protocol as WoW, that may be a different beast

Hmmmm, I will try to make this quick and brief. That video, and the quotes you mention, was from years ago, times change. I've left the private server scene. I think it's mostly newbies who haven't worked on large private servers or shipped their own who think "TC bad". Sorry, but TC forks are powering the 7 figure servers. I've got a private fork for custom work that's been QA'd by players for like, can't remember what it was when I totaled it up but like 100,000 hours. Can't believe peeps play so much o.0. I mean of course TC has bugs, but you just fix them after cloning... Or after reporting. It's not hard, any server with any chance is going to be capable of doing this.
