You can always dump a build folder and sometimes it’s needed and rolling back to a working source is probably a great idea. There are a lot of good repos out there that are public which are working and likely include many of the features you want already. Could potentially fork from and and the final things you want. Downside to taking the easy route is you don’t learn to do it on your own and may not understand all the things said individual has added to the source.
