hey there, random question for someone with a more technical networking knowledge. i've fully transitioned all of my services to reverse proxy tunnel behind pangolin, and the goal is to include the wotlk server too. anybody else have experience setting this up?

Didn’t work with pangolin, but in general, you should take into account that the wow protocol is based on raw TCP. This means you can’t use domain based routing like you usually do with http based services, and both the authserver and worldserver won’t know the real players IP. So, if your authserver bans an IP because of too many failed login attempts, it would end up banning the proxy itself, restricting access for all users. This could be solved with the Proxy Protocol, but as far as I know, TC doesn’t support it, and I’m not sure if Pangolin does either.

not too concerned with the banning issue necessarily as there's just a handful of us playing on it

pangolin does offer raw tcp proxy as an alternative to http/s proxy, it doesn't forward to a specific subdomain but it will forward the port to the intended destination on your local network
