I ended up writing one that works, use a npc, gossip for option to make your character hardcore, when you die announces to all you lost your hardcore status and then you can keep playing but you will no longer be hardcore... only thing is, is it possible to use Lua to trigger a icon like the Skull icon for users that are hardcore? so then everyone would then know thats a hardcore character?

it was possible to add [HC] to the worldchat so people can see in worldchat but unsure what would be good, maybe if the skull icon is an aura i could easily just cast aura on hardcore characters and then i guess have it recast every login.
