Real ID friends stuff was introduced in 3.3.5, right? Would it be possible theoretically to use that system with regular accounts?

Anyway, yeah, the friends list is between characters. Character A is friends with Character B. But Real ID was added in 3.3.5, and so, in theory, could potentially be supported in some capacity through accounts?
