Just hasn't been scripted I assume, would need sniff data to fix properly (which for most people has just not existed until Classic came around)

The issues are open for anyone to review, debug and fix. There's no one group that is responsible for that alone. Anyone works on what they feel like, that's the spirit of open source, and if no one has wanted to work on that issue then it remains open. I don't think that means the project is dead or development is no longer being done.
