To follow up with this, after some research it seems impossible for it *not* to be blizzlike as some spells absolutely require knowing about Unit auras with spellids that don't exist in Spell DBC. An easy to understand case would be 56815 Runic Strike spell from DKs that have a CasterAuraSpellId requirement of 56817 which doesn't exist in the client's spell table. Without the client having this aura update clientside it would not be possible for the client's spell predicition logic to work checking aura requirements which would break both action bar highlighting and cast checks in the client. So, if anyone in the future wonders then yes send aura updates about spells that don't exist in the client because sometimes they are required .

That's funny because when I just added support initially for serverside spell auras in my client an hour ago I had a blank white icon in the aura bar too due to some missing checks. Thankfully, mousing over it just showed an empty aura tooltip in my case . But it sounds like it wasn't *always* supported by WoW which is pretty interesting. I can def say it's supported in 335 though, seems some spells wouldn't even function correctly without it!
