I could even find rumors that a few of the guys behind nostalrius got sued because blizzard had their information, but that may just be rumors (as is everything else I've found so far)

I've played enough of "blizzlike" so my goal is making an entirely new map, all new quests, re-using none of their items (even things like linen cloth).
The only thing I would reuse would be their races, animations etc - but I'm guessing that would be enough to sue me?

I agree it seems like a grey area, and almost impossible to find any real factual information on how to proceed I guess "successful" (as in, we haven't gotten rekt by blizzard yet) don't want to release it so they can get more competitors
