TC worldserver makes the port configurtable, just check the config. I forget the default.

Yes, you could study that and fork it and it's not a bad starting point for understanding emulation from the client perspective.

it does sound stupid and sketchy to me, as the only people caring about lightweight client are botters that want to run as many instances as possible

Another project maybe worth peaking at then in WoWchat I think it's called too. But TrinityCore alone is the best reference imo.

Maybe he's inspired by TC's readme which claims it is an MMORPG framework and felt like there should be a similarly opensource client to go along with it
