chances are if you use clion on windows, it requires you to install visual studio compiler anyway (not entire visual studio)

as Shauren said CLion is just an IDE, it really uses msbuild in the backend or whatever you have installed so compiling stuff in CLion and Visual Studio should be the same speed

you only have 3 real options for compiler choice: msvc (the visual studio compiler, windows only), gcc and clang
