The SQL is actually a couple hundred MB. It's mostly "constant" stuff like vanilla items, quest data, dialogue, etc. And it's just a buttload of it so it adds up.

Previous containers would include all the SQL, all the source code, dynamic libraries (which is a lot more unused data than you'd think)

7878 is for SOAP control. Not unnecessary or anything, but definitely not something you'd want on public Internet.

To be fair, I don't know anything about your setup

I wonder though if my router firewall is blocking the ports externally does it really matter if I allow the local device to be open to other ports? I understand that it is another layer of defense, but they would have to authenticate into my Lan to be able to exploit that?
