I would say so. I added the environment vars and nothing happened. Though that could have been for any number of possible issues, including;
- A set of configs that wouldn't have worked in the first place
- Me not knowing which vars need to start with (or without) "AC_"

I would have thought that even without a config, the defaults would have been applied

It's all `AC_`. I'm pretty much positive that I was doing it all right when I was fiddling with it
